Jacksboro Independent School District (ISD), serving the majority of Jack County, supports a growing student population of over 1,000. Known for its strong athletics, student involvement, and community pride, the district continues to expand its reputation across the region. As Superintendent Brad Burnett shared, “JISD is shaping the future by empowering students with endless opportunities in a safe and supportive learning environment committed to achieving academic growth and lifelong success.” This commitment to safety and growth led the district to partner with Lynk for a comprehensive security upgrade.

JISD’s primary goals included expanding camera coverage, upgrading access control systems, and improving overall network connectivity. To achieve this, Lynk deployed installation teams across multiple campuses, including the elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as the administration building, press box, and newly constructed junior high. By leveraging Verkada’s advanced security solutions, Lynk successfully modernized the district’s system while maintaining and integrating portions of the existing infrastructure.

When designing JISD’s upgraded access control system, simplicity and scalability were key priorities. In collaboration with the district, Lynk implemented a Bluetooth-enabled entry solution that allows for seamless and secure access management across all campuses. This included the deployment of Verkada door controllers capable of managing multiple entry points, along with AD34 door readers that support both badge and mobile credentials.

To further enhance entry management and situational awareness, Verkada TD53 video intercoms were installed at key access points. These devices go beyond traditional intercom functionality by integrating video and audio capabilities within Verkada’s Command platform. This allows administrators to manage and monitor entry points remotely, providing greater flexibility and responsiveness. Lynk’s installation team worked closely with school staff to optimize placement and ensure each intercom delivered the best possible visibility and usability for its specific location.

The camera system upgrade presented additional complexity. Much of the project involved replacing legacy cameras while also expanding coverage into previously unmonitored areas. Mini dome cameras were widely deployed to maximize coverage in a cost-effective manner, particularly in locations where existing mounting points could be reused. In key areas, advanced cameras with enhanced analytics and pan-tilt-zoom functionality were installed to provide greater situational awareness and investigative capabilities.

Beyond traditional security measures, JISD also incorporated environmental sensors to enhance campus safety. These devices monitor air quality conditions such as carbon dioxide levels, humidity, and the presence of smokeless vapors. Additionally, they provide alerts for motion, noise, and tampering, making them valuable tools for identifying and addressing potential concerns in real time.

To support the upgraded systems, Lynk worked within the district’s existing network infrastructure. Rather than overhauling the entire network, new cabling was installed only where necessary to accommodate additional devices. This strategic approach allowed the team to maximize budget efficiency while seamlessly integrating both new and existing systems into a unified management platform.

The project spanned several months and required coordination across multiple teams. JISD’s collaboration and flexibility played a key role in maintaining progress and adapting to on-site adjustments. Reflecting on the partnership, Director of Technology Brett Thomas shared, “Jacksboro ISD was pleased to work with Lynk Automation. The result is a safer, more connected district equipped with a streamlined, centralized security platform—positioning JISD to better protect its students, staff, and facilities for years to come.
