Verkada Security Upgrades

Weimar Independent School District (ISD), located in Colorado County, Texas, serves over 700 students each year. With a mission to “be a community nurturing academic excellence for all students and demonstrating leadership in character development,” the district understands that a secure learning environment is essential to academic and personal growth. To support this mission, Lynk was brought in to implement comprehensive security upgrades that would allow students and staff to stay focused on what matters most.

In April 2025, a dedicated Lynk installation team made their first trip to Weimar ISD, working building by building to deploy a modern, unified security system. The scope of work included the installation of advanced Verkada equipment, with a focus on both surveillance and access control across interior and exterior zones of the campus.

The access control solution was carefully designed using a range of cloud-based Verkada products that work seamlessly together. AD34 card readers and TD53-HW video intercoms were strategically placed at key entry points, allowing administrators to manage access in real-time. Each access request communicates with a central door controller, which then remotely unlocks the appropriate door. Two controller types were deployed: the AC12 single-door controller for more isolated entrances, and the AC42-HW for high-traffic areas, capable of managing up to four doors simultaneously.

To complement the access control system, Lynk installed a combination of CD42 Indoor Dome Cameras and their AI-enhanced counterpart, the CD42-256E. These cameras provide wide-area coverage with fewer units, making them both efficient and cost-effective. By integrating the surveillance and access systems, the district can respond more quickly to potential threats—allowing cameras to trigger door lockdowns automatically when suspicious activity is detected.

While the project was ultimately a success, it required several on-site adjustments due to unforeseen structural conditions. The team quickly discovered that many of the buildings featured solid wall construction with no interior cavities, making traditional cable routing impossible. To overcome this, the crew drilled directly through the solid walls and installed surface-mounted conduit. Glowrods were used to assist with line visibility and ensure precision during the pull. Additionally, several buildings lacked available network ports, requiring the team to extend conduit runs from adjacent structures to maintain connectivity. These deviations were executed with the same level of precision and finish as the original scope, resulting in a final product that appeared fully integrated despite the mid-project adjustments.

This project is wrapping up just in time for the start of the 2025–2026 school year. These intuitive security and access control upgrades are not only making the school safer, but also easier to manage. With centralized, real-time visibility into every entry point and surveillance zone, Weimar ISD staff can now proactively address concerns, streamline daily operations, and create a more secure environment for students and faculty alike.

Superintendent Chase Seelke noted the immediate impact of the new system, highlighting improved functionality, greater peace of mind, and a smooth installation process. “Working with LYNK Automation on our district-wide security upgrade was an outstanding experience from start to finish,” Seelke shared. “Communication with the LYNK team was seamless, and their professionalism ensured the process was smooth and minimally disruptive to our daily operations.”

As technology continues to evolve, Weimar ISD is well-positioned with a scalable foundation that supports both present needs and future growth.
